4/22/21 Update: A previous version of the article said that Gabriel Varga was released by Bellator. The article has been changed to reflect that he has not been released by the promotion.
A recent report from Nolan King of MMA Junkie has revealed the release of eight fighters from Bellator’s roster. The series of fighters they have parted ways with include talent from the European scene and a couple veterans of the promotion.
The full list of releases include Cal Ellenor, Brandon Girtz, Roger Huerta, Arbi Mezhidov, Frans Mlambo, Paul Redmond, Ryan Roddy and Richie Smullen.
Huerta is the most recently active fighter in the talent pool to depart the promotion. The UFC and ONE Championship vet sees his Bellator run come to an end after losing four consecutive bouts from 2018 to 2021. His last fight was earlier in the month, where he was stopped by undefeated prospect Chris Gonzalez.
The most experienced Bellator fighter that was part of the releases was Girtz, who competed 16 times during his time with the promotion. He was part of the promotion since 2012, with his first fight being at Bellator 80.
Girtz leaves Bellator following a two-fight losing streak that was developed last year. His last bout was in October, where he lost a split decision to Henry Corrales.
Ellenor leaves Bellator after only two fights, although his last was a main event loss to James Gallagher last year.
