Former Bellator Bantamweight Champion Darrion Caldwell will move back down to the 135-pound division to rematch Leandro Higo on May 21st, per a report from Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting.
The matchup joins a card that is set to happen at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.
Caldwell’s first meeting against Higo was in March of 2018. The fight gave Caldwell his first title defense after gaining the belt the year prior.
Caldwell made the move to featherweight in 2019 after losing his bantamweight belt to Kyoji Horiguchi. He has now spent his last three fights at featherweight as part of Bellator’s ongoing 145-pound grand prix.
After advancing through the first two rounds of the bracket with victories over Henry Corrales and Adam Borics, he was stopped in the semifinals by undefeated Bellator talent AJ McKee Jr late last year.
Higo has scored submission wins in his last two performances. He last appeared in the Bellator cage in October, where he caught Ricky Bandejas in the second round with a rear naked choke.
