UFC’s quickly approaching May 8th card has taken another hit, as Diego Sanchez has been removed from his fight against Donald Cerrone. News of the cancelled bout was first reported by Carlos Contreras Legaspi on Wednesday.
The fight was set to take place in the co-main event of a UFC “Fight Night” card. While it is not known if Cerrone can get a new opponent, reports say the promotion is currently looking to find one for him.
Cerrone will be looking to earn his first win since 2019. He last competed in September of last year, where he fought to a draw against Niko Price. The fight, which broke a four-fight losing streak for Cerrone, was later overturned to a no contest due to Price testing positive for marijuana in his Nevada Atheltic Commission drug test.
Sanchez is coming off a loss, as his most recent fight saw him lose on scorecards to Jake Matthews in the fall.
UFC’s May 8th event has also lost its main event recently, as a cut on the head of TJ Dillashaw forced him out of his return bout against Cory Sandhagen.
