UFC has recently booked big matchups in the middleweight division to headline two August “Fight Night” cards. Both matchups were first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN and join cards that do not have confirmed locations at the moment.
Brunson To Put Win Streak Up Against Till
Riding a four-fight win streak, Derek Brunson will get a fight against Darren Till on August 14th. Brunson has been undefeated since 2019. His last two fights have been especially notable, as he picked up main event wins over Edmen Shahbazyan and Kevin Holland.
The fight will see Till appear for the first time after losing a main event fight to Robert Whittaker in July of 2020. Till has been forced out of recent matchups recently, with injury removing him from bouts against Jack Hermansson and Marvin Vettori in recent months.
Former Title Challenger Costa To Return Against Cannonier
Appearing for the first time after losing a title shot last year, Paulo Costa will fight Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC’s August 21st card.
Costa last appeared in September of 2020, where UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya stopped him in the second round of a dominant performance. Costa had a quick climb up the middleweight division prior to the title fight, earning five wins from 2017 to 2019.
Costa was set to make his return against Robert Whittaker in April, although he had to eventually pull out from the fight.
He now fights Cannonier, who is also looking to return following a major loss in the division. The 37-year-old had a three-fight win streak snapped in October, as former champ Robert Whittaker defeated him via unanimous decision.
