Just a day after Sean O’Malley lost his original opponent for UFC’s July 10th show, he has been matched with a new challenge. The bantamweight will now face promotional newcomer Kris Moutinho, per a report from Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
The fight joins a pay-per-view card that is set to happen at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Moutinho has a pro record of nine wins and four losses and has competed since 2016. He is currently on a two-fight winning streak, including a submission victory that he earned over Andrew Salas in May.
He gets a big challenge in his first UFC bout in O’Malley. The 26-year-old bounced back from his sole pro loss in March, stopping Thomas Almeida in the third round.
O’Malley was first set to fight UFC vet Louis Smolka, although plans changed after Smolka withdrew due to injury on Tuesday.
The vacancy on UFC 264 caused many inside and outside of the UFC to offer a fight against O’Malley. One of the frontrunners to get the bout was reportedly Ricky Simon, although the fight wasn’t finalized since he couldn’t make bantamweight on short notice, per Ariel Helwani.
