ONE Championship has revealed the full lineups for their August 13th and 27th “Battleground” events recently. The pre-taped cards were recorded late last month at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore and will air for the first time in the coming weeks.
Veterans Folayang and Zhang Headline ‘Battleground 2’
ONE Championship will have an all-MMA lineup on August 13th when presenting “Battleground 2.”
Former ONE Champion and veteran of the promotion Eduard Folayang will headline the five-fight card when facing Zhang Lipeng.
Folayang will be fighting to snap a three-fight losing streak that he has developed over the past year or so. He last competed in April, where Shinya Aoki submitted him within a round with an armbar.
Zhang, an MMA veteran of over 40 fights, will be making his ONE Championship debut. His pro record dates back to over a decade ago, and the majority of his bouts have taken place in regional Chinese promotion Kunlun Fight.
He also has UFC experience, having fought for the promotion briefly from 2014 to 2015.
Flyweights Alex Silva and Miao Li Tao will meet in the co-main event of the show. Silva will be attempting to climb out of a two-fight skid. On the other hand, Miao is returning after breaking a two-fight losing streak with a victory against Ryuto Sawada.
Undefeated heavyweight Thomas Narmo will make his ONE Championship debut on the card when facing Alain Ngalani. Narmo has been a pro since 2019 and has all four of his pro wins via stoppage.
Ngalani has been on the losing side of things since 2018 and has been stopped within a round in his past two fights.
Eko Roni Saputra will look to continue his winning streak when facing Liu Peng Shuai. Saputra has won his past four bouts in ONE Championship, with the past three coming via submission. Liu will be fighting to bounce back from a loss he suffered against Roshan Mainam last year.
The card will open with a fight between Otgonbaatar Nergui and Rahul Raju. Nergui is getting the call-up to ONE’s flagship program nearly two years after he defeated Takuya Nagata on the promotion’s “Warrior Series.”
Muay Thai Strikers Sitthichai and Tawanchai To Headline August 27th Card
Muay Thai veterans Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong and Tawanchai P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym will headline ONE’s August 27th event.
Sitthichai was originally set to face Tayfun Ozcan at ONE’s live July 30th event. Plans changed once Ozcan had to withdraw from the fight due to injury.
Sitthichai lost his ONE debut roughly a year ago to Superbon Banchamek.
Tawanchai won his ONE debut earlier this year, stopping Sean Clancy in the third round with strikes.
ONE veteran Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke will compete in the co-main event against Banma Douji. Dejdamrong, a fighter who has spent his entire MMA career in ONE, will be fighting to bounce back from a loss he took against Hexigetu last year.
Banma, a veteran of the MMA scene in China, is set to make his ONE debut in the fight. He last appeared two years ago, suffering his first pro loss against Andrey Marchenko.
Kim Dae Hwan will fight to break a three-fight losing streak when meeting Xie Wei, who is on a two-fight winning streak in ONE.
Coming off an upset victory over previously undefeated strawweight Ritu Phogat, Bi Nguyen will fight Jenelyn Olsim in the late August show. Olsim is coming off her first win on a flagship ONE card, which came against Maira Mazar.
Song Min Jong will attempt to be the first featherweight to hand Tial Thang a loss on the card. Thang’s three previous wins have come in ONE from 2019 to 2021.
The card will start with a fight between Purev Otgonjargal and Ben Royle. Royle won his ONE debut last year, stopping Quitin Thomas in the third round with strikes. Otgonjargal will get his respective ONE debut on this card while riding a six-fight win streak.
