UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens has landed in the PFL.
Stephens announced his signing with the promotion during an appearance on “The MMA Hour” on Monday. The news marks his first appearance in MMA since a 34-fight UFC run.
Stephens is expected to join PFL’s lightweight division for their 2022 season.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Stephens claimed that his relationship with the UFC turned sour in the final years. He noted that the promotion started to offer him fights less often and that he hopes joining the PFL can change that.
“I want to go where I’ll have the opportunity to earn a paycheck for me and my family … Do you know how hard it is to fight on one paycheck once a year?” said Stephens.
Stephens had an extensive 34-fight UFC run that lasted over a decade. He joined the promotion in 2007 as a lightweight and moved up to featherweight in 2013.
It was reported last week that Stephens parted ways with the UFC. This came after going winless in his last six appearances, including five losses. His last appearance was a submission loss to Mateusz Gamrot.
