UFC Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko has her next opponent in sight. The plan is for the dominant champ to face Taila Santos at the promotion’s June 11th pay-per-view event, per Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.
The fight, while not official yet, is currently in the process of being finalized. No location has been confirmed for UFC 275 just yet, but the promotion is reportedly interested in going to Singapore for the card.
Shevchenko is set to make history in her next fight. If successful in the fight, it would mark her seventh consecutive time defending her flyweight belt. That would be the most times any woman has consecutively defended a belt in UFC history – a record that Ronda Rousey currently ties Shevchenko for with six wins.
Shevchenko scored two dominant victories in 2021, stopping former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade and later defeating Lauren Murphy as well.
Santos is being lined up for the title opportunity after stringing together four consecutive wins from 2020 to 2021. Her last win was in November, where she submitted Joanne Wood in the first round of action.
If the fight can be finalized, it would be the first time that Santos gets booked for a five-round fight.
It was previously reported that a light heavyweight title fight between Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka was moved to UFC 275, although the date for the event wasn’t known at that time. As it stands currently, UFC 275 could have two title fights in its lineup.
