UFC Looking To Re-Book Rafael dos Anjos vs. Rafael Fiziev For July 9th Main Event

A fight between ranked lightweights Rafael dos Anjos and Rafael Fiziev could be back on the schedule. The previously attempted fight is reportedly being given another chance in the main event of UFC’s July 9th card, per a report from Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

While the fight hasn’t been finalized as of yet, the promotion is in the process of making the fight. If it can be confirmed, it will join a card that doesn’t have a confirmed location at the moment.

Dos Anjos and Fiziev were first booked to meet in February and March earlier this year, although the bout ended up not happening in both of its attempted instances.

Fiziev has been slowly climbing up the lightweight ranks since joining the UFC roster in 2019. He scored his fifth consecutive win for the promotion late last year, finishing Brad Riddell late with strikes.

Dos Anjos provides a tough test for Fiziev, as he is someone who has been at the top of the UFC ranks for years. His last appearance saw him pick up a decision victory, defeating short-notice opponent Renato Moicano in a one-sided fight that went five rounds.

Here’s how UFC’s July 9th show would look so far if the main event can be confirmed:

Bout 6: Rafael dos Anjos (31-13) vs. Rafael Fiziev (11-1) (Lightweight)

Bout 5: Cynthia Calvillo (9-4-1) vs. Nina Nunes (10-7) (Flyweight)

Bout 4: Antonina Shevchenko (9-4) vs. Cortney Casey (10-9) (Flyweight)

Bout 3: Abdul Razak Alhassan (11-5) vs. Jamie Pickett (13-7) (Middleweight)

Bout 2: Caio Borralho (11-1) vs. Armen Petrosyan (7-1) (Middleweight)

Bout 1: Rani Yahya (28-10-1) vs. Cody Garbrandt (12-5) (Bantamweight)
