Previous UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and former title challenger Marvin Vettori have been given a second chance to face off in the UFC cage. A matchup between the fighters has been booked for the promotion’s September 3rd event at the Accor Arena in Paris France, per an announcement made Tuesday.
The booking marks a second time that the middleweights have been paired up. Whittaker and Vettori were first matched for a card in June of this year, although that bout was canceled after Whittaker suffered an injury.
Whittaker will be fighting to return to his winning ways. He lost a rematch to UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya earlier this year, dropping a unanimous decision after five rounds of action.
Before then, Whittaker had a three-fight winning streak that included two main event wins.
Vettori’s last win came in October 2021, when he beat Paulo Costa via decision in the headlining bout of a “Fight Night” card.
A few bouts have been confirmed for UFC’s September 3rd show thus far, however the show is still without a main event. Here are the few fights that have been confirmed for the show already:
Bout 3: Katlyn Chookagian (18-4) vs. Manon Fiorot (9-1) (Flyweight)
Bout 2: Makhmud Muradov (25-7) vs. Abusupiyan Magomedov (24-4-1) (Middleweight)
Bout 1: Robert Whittaker (23-6) vs. Marvin Vettori (18-4-1) (Middleweight)
