Bantamweight Louis Smolka is no longer a UFC fighter.
The veteran fighter confirmed that he parted ways with the MMA promotion earlier this week.
Smolka’s exit from the UFC roster comes after he suffered a finish loss to Davey Grant last month. The fight was Smolka’s second consecutive defeat and moved his promotional record to a negative eight wins and nine losses overall.
“I’m kinda excited to test free agency, the MMA landscape is changing a lot,” said Smolka in a Tweet. “And pretty soon it might be like boxing where huge entities are roaming the globe taking each other out. Sounds like it has the potential to be really lucrative to me.”
Smolka, 30, has made it back into the UFC before if he is interested in pursuing that option again.
He notably was cut from the roster in 2017 after falling into a four-fight losing streak. He then scored three consecutive finish wins on the regional scene in 2018, allowing him to return to the UFC by the end of the year.
