A previously booked flyweight fight between Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo has been upgraded to main event status for UFC’s October 15th event.
News of the fight’s new headliner status was announced by the UFC earlier this week. The bout is scheduled to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
It was reported last week that a previously booked main event for UFC’s October 15th event, a bout between Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier, was removed from the card due to a finger injury that Strickland suffered. Up until now, it hasn’t been known which matchup would get the new main event spot on the card.
Both flyweights have experienced a fair amount of success in recent months.
Grasso is currently on a three-fight winning streak. Her last fight was a first-round submission victory, catching Joanne Wood with a rear naked choke in March. Prior wins took place in 2021 and 2020 respectively.
Araujo has won three of her last five fights in the UFC. Her last appearance came in May, when she went the distance against Andrea Lee for a decision victory.
