UFC’s August 1st “Fight Night” is undergoing a massive overhaul, as three new matchups have been added to the show. The show, which is set to happen from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, is the UFC’s scheduled return to the United States following a series of events in United Arab Emirates.
The bout changes were announced in a press release obtained by Jay Pettry of Sherdog.
Trevin Giles vs. Kevin Holland
The previously scheduled matchup between Trevin Giles and Jun Yong Park won’t be happening, as Park withdrew from the show. Taking his place is middleweight Kevin Holland.
Holland’s last fight was a win, stopping Anthony Hernandez in the first minute with striking. The win saw him come back from a loss in October to Brendan Allen.
Giles is aiming to work off of his February split decision win over James Krause. The win broke a two-fight losing streak from before which saw him finished with a guillotine choke in both instances.
Ed Herman vs. Gerald Meerschaert
Gerald Meerschaert will make the move up to light heavyweight, taking a short notice fight against Ed Herman. The original opponent for Herman was Da Un Jung, however, he withdrew from the fight.
Meerschaert, also known as “GM3,” has flipped between losses recently at middleweight. His most recent fight was a loss, being stopped in the second round by Ian Heinisch at UFC 250.
Herman will be making his first appearance of 2020. His two 2020 outings were a turnaround from previous years, as Herman defeated Patrick Cummins and Khadis Ibragimov back-to-back. It snapped his three-fight losing streak that went from 2016 to 2018 before.
Bobby Green vs. Lando Vannata 2
In a bout that saw a short notice booking without replacing anyone, a rematch between Bobby Green and Lando Vannata was placed on the card. Their meeting in 2017 produced an unsatisfying split draw, giving both fighter the first draw on their record.
Green has won twice and lost twice since then, all coming via decision. His most recent fight was in June, prevailing over UFC veteran Clay Guida.
Vannata has performed similarly since, winning and losing two each, and also going to a draw. He comes into this bout off of a February decision win against Yancy Medeiros.
The biggest change to the card came on Wednesday, where the five-round main event between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana was taken off of the card due to what was later revealed as a positive COVID-19 test to Aldana. Here’s how the show looks now.
