Alex Perez has a new date for his return to action. The flyweight has been booked again to face Askar Askarov, this time on UFC’s July 16th card.
News of the matchup was confirmed by Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie on Thursday. The fight is joining a card that doesn’t have a confirmed location currently.
Perez has struggled to find a fight since 2020. He has been previously booked in five matchups that have all fallen through for various reasons. His last booking, a February bout against Matt Schnell, was canceled after Perez missed weight and Schnell refused to proceed with the bout.
Perez’s last appearance was a loss in November 2020 against then-UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo. In that bout, Perez had a three-fight winning streak snapped in just two minutes via submission.
Askarov is also coming off a loss, albeit in a more recent appearance. He took his first pro defeat in March, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Kai Kara-France. He had three wins and one draw in the UFC before then.
